Well that didn't take long.

Moments after her victory last night, Julie Bindelglass uttered a phrase which reflects a pretty astounding misinterpretation of the facts around her.

“The students have spoken,” Bindeglass said moments after she was announced the winner. “I’m so excited to get started with my work on all of these issues that I’ve been talking about throughout the election.”

Julie, I don't dispute that you have won this election. You followed the rules, you ran a good campaign, and you won fair and square.

And the students have spoken. Kyle Boyer got more votes than you against 6 candidates.

This is not to say that Kyle should have been in the runoff. I have posted many times that I thought the JEC was just in its ruling.

But to ignore the fact that, were it not for his disqualification, Kyle Boyer would be president right now is a dangerous oversight.

So, Julie, enjoy you moment. You are the SA President elect. But I would advise against assuming you have a mandate for your ideas. You will need to tread very carefully, or else risk losing all credibility.

Seriously, you only beat Nick Polk by 2%. Nick Polk! The kid isn't exactly a charisma machine.

I resent that!

Logan,

She just won, cut her some slack.

What do you walk around writing down what she says?
Just waiting for her to screw up? That's admirable.
Also, to assume that Kyle would have won the runoff is entirely speculative. If Kyle was gonna win, Kyle would have won. Breaking: KYLE DIDN'T WIN.
The students voted for Julie not Nick. Two people ran, one garnered more votes than the other, that person wins.
Lastly I didn't hear Julie say anything about a mandate, I think that person was you.

This is a disappointing post Logan. You sound like GWBlogspot.

You are so right. She came in second, then barely won and then the first thing the robot says is "the students have spoken"??? Totally tackless and self-absorbed statement considering this election.

this Julie bashing should stop right here and right now. She's done NOTHING wrong except WIN, and yes she did WIN because Kyle wasn't in the runoff whether or not you agree with it or not.

Logan, I respect you. But what you have just posted was stupid. Kyle may have beat everyone in the first round, but oh wait, he basically did it illegally, so that doesn't even count. And if it did, he still would have had to go through the run-off. Kyle Boyer does not deserve half the credit you give him. Julie won fair and square. Nick did a fantastic job! Julie did a fantastic job! Kyle, clearly, did not.

Just a quick note: the comment "the students have spoken" was from an interview of Julie just minutes after they announced her victory. It's not Logan making stuff up, simply him reusing a quote.....

I Don't Get it said...

I don't see what the big deal is, she gave the standard post election line. I dare you to find 1 instance in the history of elections where a winning candidate didn't say, "The people have spoken." Even Bill Clinton's campaign even said it despite the fact he that won only about 43% of the vote.

"Even Bill Clinton's campaign even said it despite the fact he that won only about 43% of the vote."

Clinton got 43% of the vote in the 92' race because of Perot. This was 2 PERSON RACE, not a 3 PERSON RACE, so you take away that 18% even if you divided it Clinton would have gotten 51%

Julie got the majority of the students who voted for her in the runoff election, which is why she has every right to declare that the people have spoken. The people she is referring to are the people who voted in the runoff and guess what, she got more votes then Polky, which makes her the President.

And Logan, if you ever want to accomplish anything next year I suggest that you lay off Julie now. She's got Nicole Capp, Steve Glatter and bunch of really really smart people behind her.

Regarding this post, as W. Hunter Patterson wrote,

@ 2nd to last Anon:

I'm not easily swayed by the argument that I need friends to get things done.

Ideas are what win the day, not me. I was not all that well liked when I got the finance bill through the senate, and I was a lone dissenter against Unity Ball long before anyone else.

Julie and her cohorts may be smart, yes, but I am no (wo)man's tool. I won't be laying off anyone.

Your delusions of grandeur are entertaining.

Logan said...

Yeah, right after I wrote that I realized that it came off really pompously.

Whatevs. Everyone who reads this knows I'm a douche anyway. I say a lot of stupid things.

Anonymous said...

you're worse then EBK and Wylie. You're pompous, arrogant and a tool

Logan said...

Guilty, guilty, guilty.

I've never claimed to not be any of those things.

Anonymous said...

wow, he admitted all those things, is this who we have in the Senate, seriously?

Logan said...

At least I'm honest.

I suck.

Logan, why is it hard for you to give her some slack on a statement she said seconds after her victory? Would you have been any different?

Logan said...

Consider slack cut.

I understand it was a spur of the moment remark.

But I am just urging that everyone proceed with caution.

It would be foolish to ignore Kyle's disqualification.

Do you think that "Kyle Boyer" will still be mentioned in Oct?

Logan said...

I have no idea. Depends how good Julie is, honestly.

If, as I think, she is a competent and uncontroversial president, He might not be mentioned much. The more dissatisfaction with her there is, the more people will mention Kyle.

Anonymous said...

The more people will mention Kyle? Well guess what, he isn't President, he's DONE in the SA unless Julie decides to appoint him to something as a way of getting his minions to shut up
